Baraka started as a single butcher counter and a shelf of spices. Twenty-eight years later it's the shop half of Elm Park does its weekly run in, and the counter still cuts to order.
Haji Salim opened the shop in 1998 because his own family had to cross London for meat they trusted. The rule from day one was simple. Sell what you'd take home to your own table, and remember what your regulars cook.
His sons run the shop now. The rule hasn't changed, and neither has the habit of slipping a few extra chillies in the bag for the regulars.
Come in twice and the counter remembers how you like your lamb. That's not a system, it's just how the shop works.
Every supplier certified, every certificate on the wall by the counter. If you want to know where anything comes from, ask.
We sponsor the local youth football kit, stay open late in Ramadan, and drop shopping round to a few doors that can't come to us.
We're on the parade, seven days a week. First visit? Tell the counter and they'll show you round the aisles.
